LA CHIAVE SEGRETA PER L'UNIVERSO

Oggi, durante la pausa caffè, ho buttato l'occhio sul giornale scoprendo questa notizia: Stephen Hawking & Figlia hanno scritto un romanzo per ragazzi.
Nell'intervista che ne seguiva veniva detto che "È come Harry Potter solo che il protagonista usa la scienza al posto della magia".
Il paragone con Harry Potter sembra diventato d'obbligo per tutti i nuovi libri per ragazzi, il più delle volte a sproposito, ma in questo caso la frase è ad effetto e come trovata pubblicitaria non è male.
Il libro mi incuriosisce molto, la trama (a grandi linee come veniva presentata nell'articolo) parla di un ragazzo completamente a digiuno di scienza e tecnologia. I genitori sono ambientalisti e non gli fanno tenere nemmeno il computer. Un giorno il ragazzo scopre che il suo vicino di casa è uno dei più grandi scienziati viventi, la cui missione nella vita è cercare un pianeta su cui 'traslocare' la razza umana.
La storia è stata pensata per essere una trilogia, e in ogni libro viene approfondito un aspetto diverso della scienza.
Lo metterò nella lista dei libri da leggere, sono curiosa anche di vedere come viene gestita la narrazione, in particolare se la trama sarà in grado di avvincere in sè o se sarà soltanto accessoria alle varie lezioncine su come funziona il mondo.

The Borderlands of Sequojeda is a massive, socially progressive nation, notable for its complete lack of prisons. Its compassionate, intelligent population of 1.491 billion love a good election, and the government gives them plenty of them. Universities tend to be full of students debating the merits of various civil and political rights, while businesses are tightly regulated and the wealthy viewed with suspicion.

It is difficult to tell where the omnipresent government stops and the rest of society begins, but it juggles the competing demands of the Environment, Education, and Public Transport. The average income tax rate is 56%, and even higher for the wealthy. The private sector is almost wholly made up of enterprising fourteen-year-old boys selling lemonade on the sidewalk, although the government is looking at stamping this out.

The arms industry is strictly regulated, police officers are seen patrolling the streets armed with satellite-guided truncheons, the police have reaffirmed their tough stance on drugs, and guns are banned. Crime -- especially youth-related -- is a serious problem, probably because of the country's utter lack of prisons. Sequojeda's national animal is the beaver, which frolics freely in the nation's many lush forests, and its currency is the orbis.

Sequojeda is ranked 1003rd in the region and 66,481st in the world for Largest Defense Forces (per capita).
